One minute, no judgement
Sometimes what you need isn’t to talk about it. A single tile on the home screen opens a quiet, dark space that breathes with you for about a minute — in for four, hold, out for four, hold — and then lets you go without asking anything.
A count in, then something to follow
The whole session is one screen you don’t really have to look at.
-
Find your seat
A short count in before anything starts, so you arrive rather than being dropped into a rhythm mid-stride.
-
Then the rhythm
The shape grows as you breathe in and settles as you breathe out. The seconds are there if you want them, and ignorable if you don’t.
A box, and a way out of it
Everything here was chosen for how little it asks of you.
-
Four, four, four, four
Box breathing: in for four, hold for four, out for four, hold for four. About a minute in total — roughly four rounds — and then it stops on its own.
-
A chime keeps the time
A soft tone marks each turn of the box, so you can close your eyes and follow the sound instead of watching a countdown.
-
Something to breathe with
A shape swells and settles at the pace of the rhythm. It’s easier to follow a thing that moves than a number that counts.
-
Dark, and staying awake
The screen dims to a quiet, near-black space and won’t sleep on you mid-session. Nothing to look at, nothing to tap.
-
Leave whenever
Close it after twenty seconds if that was all you needed. Nothing records that you stopped early, because nothing is keeping score.
-
No entry afterwards
It doesn’t ask how that felt, doesn’t rate you, and doesn’t nudge you into journaling about it. You breathed. That was the whole thing.
Usually right before, or right after
It isn’t a practice you’re meant to keep up. It’s a thing that’s there when you want it.
-
Before you speak
A minute before a session tends to change what comes out of it. You start from where you actually are instead of from the last thing that happened.
-
Instead of the app
Some days you open a journal and find you have nothing to say. The tile is right there on the home screen for exactly those days.
-
At the end of it
It also works as a full stop. A minute of nothing between the day and whatever you were about to scroll.
The one feature with nothing to protect
A breathing session produces no words, so there is nothing here to store, send, or think twice about.
-
It never leaves the phone
The rhythm, the shape and the chime all run on your iPhone. There is no text, no audio and no session to send anywhere.
-
Nothing is logged
Breathing isn’t counted, streaked, or added to your insights. The app doesn’t build a picture of how often you needed it.
-
No account, no connection
It works in a tunnel, on a plane, with the phone offline. Nothing about this feature depends on anything outside the device.
Questions about breathing
What is the breathing space?
One minute of box breathing: in for four, hold for four, out for four, hold for four. A soft chime marks each turn so you don’t have to watch the screen.
Do I have to journal to use it?
No. It sits on the home screen as its own tile and asks nothing of you — no entry, no mood rating, no follow-up question afterwards.
Can I change how long it runs?
It runs about a minute by default — roughly four rounds. You can leave at any point, and stopping early isn’t recorded anywhere or held against you.
Does it need a connection?
No. The rhythm, the artwork and the chime all run on your iPhone. Nothing about a breathing session is sent anywhere, because there’s nothing to send.
