These Terms govern your use of Smart Journaling — the iOS app and the smart-journaling.com website. By using either, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

What the app is

Smart Journaling is a personal voice journaling app. It helps you record, transcribe, and reflect on your thoughts. Some features use AI to generate conversational replies, summaries, and reflections.

What the app is not

The app is not therapy, medical advice, legal advice, or financial advice. It is not a substitute for professional care. If you are in crisis, contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) in the US, or your local emergency services.

Your account and your content

There is no account. Your journal entries are stored on your device. You own your content. You are responsible for keeping a backup if it matters to you — the encrypted backup feature is available in Settings → Your Data.

Price

This version of Smart Journaling is free. There is no subscription, no trial, and nothing to cancel. If paid features are ever introduced, the price and terms will be shown before you buy anything, and existing features will not be moved behind a paywall without notice.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

Use the app if you are under 13
Use the app to harass, defame, or harm others
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app
Use the app to generate content that violates applicable laws

We may suspend or terminate access to optional cloud features if usage appears to be abusive, automated, or aimed at extracting unreasonable amounts of compute.

AI-generated content

AI replies, lens reflections, summaries, and other generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable. They are presented for reflection only and must not be relied on as facts or advice. You are responsible for how you act on anything you read in the app.

No warranty

The app is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer disclaims all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the app. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Changes

These Terms may change as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or in the App Store release notes. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. If you are a consumer resident in the UK or EEA, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence and may bring proceedings there.
